It’s odd. Lately I’ve seen a series of profitable animation… the Shrek movies, the Pixar blockbusters. I have also watched finacial failures: Treasure Planet, Sinbad, and (time will tell) Chicken Little.
Animation often lacks essential humanity, the small things that make the drawings live. Often it’s technical, slick, and unbelievable in a non-fun way. Sometimes it’s got everything but a really good, deep story. That’s not unique to animation, as we all know very well. How many novels, plays, movies, comic books, songs, meals are disappointing?
I guess it makes me like the good stuff all the more for its rarity.
Soon, some studio shots. The workspace is just about finished.
