We just finished watching Diarios de motocicleta, a singularly beautiful piece of filmmaking. The cult of Che is always up for debate (was he a humanitarian or a totalitarian, etc), but the movie stands alone because of its beautiful cinematography, superb acting and excellent editing. I will look around to see if there are any film notes on the Web about how it was done, with what, etc.

On this subject, I must heartily recommend The Conversations by Michael Ondaatje. In this superb book he and Walter Murch discuss editing, directing, film history, sound, art, the great Zoetrope films of the 1970’s and so on. I find it to be a fountain of inspiration as well as a wealth of technical pointers. Check it out.
