It’s been hard these past two days to get anything done because I keep digging deeper into the unfolding disaster in New Orleans and Mississippi as well as the political jockeying that surrounds it. Today, too, I strolled by dried, brown cornfields with just a few shrunken ears to be seen. It has been endlessly sunny in Iowa this summer, with the usual rains nowhere to be seen.
Hard to be hopeful and buoyant when one’s heart is thus shadowed.
